De Traanroeier

Built in 1727 in Zaandam, Molen De Traanroeier is a working eight-sided grain windmill that has stood in Oudeschild on Texel since 1902. This Rijksmonument, with its brick base and thatched wooden upper structure, operates with wooden shutters on its sails and two sets of millstones. Volunteers regularly grind grain here, with the flour sold at Museum Kaap Skil and used in local baked goods. After winning the BankGiro Loterij Molenprijs in 2017, the mill’s body and cap were rethatched in 2018, restoring its striking appearance. Visit during Museum Kaap Skil’s opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-17:00, with additional Monday openings from April to October.
