Fort Redoute on Texel is a 19th-century auxiliary fort built under Napoleon Bonaparte’s direct orders in 1811 to defend the island’s strategic western coast. Part of a broader plan to strengthen Texel against potential English invasions via the Marsdiep, the Redoute was positioned along the waddendijk to guard the Waterweg access route to Den Burg. Its cannons once faced the Hoge Berg, anticipating threats from the west. Though its walls were removed in 1931, the restored earthen ramparts now stand as a protected monument under Natuurmonumenten.
