VOC Haven Den Hoorn

A short walk from Watermolenweg or De Grie on Texel leads to the restored VOC Haven Den Hoorn, a historic harbour lock originally built around 1465 during the creation of polder Buitendijk. This site once connected Hoornder fishermen and traders to the Wadden Sea via a small creek, where flat-bottomed kaagschepen loaded and unloaded goods. Though the lock disappeared in the mid-20th century, it was restored in 2008 by the agrarische natuurvereniging De Lieuw. Nearby, a sound installation shares the story of this cultural landmark.
