De Hors

De Hors is the only place on Texel where new dunes form naturally, offering a rare glimpse of how wind and sea shape the landscape. This expansive strand plain at the island’s southern tip lets nature take its course, with sand gradually building into dunes colonised by salt-tolerant plants like biestarwegras and helmgras. The shifting sands create striking patterns, while the desert-like terrain contrasts with Texel’s typical dunes.

Visitors can walk freely across most of De Hors, except where endangered little terns nest. The area is home to seabirds, seals, and plants like sea holly and sea spurge.
