Jac. P. Thijsseschool is a welcoming public primary school on Texel, housed since May 2022 in the new De Skool building in Den Burg. Inspired by naturalist Jac. P. Thijsse—who taught on the island in 1889—the school integrates Texel’s culture and nature into its teaching, encouraging curiosity and hands-on learning.
The school features a dedicated ThijsseLab, a science laboratory with five workstations, including a botanical area, and uses the 4x Wijzer method to simplify learning through five key questions. Activities like the annual Thijssefeest and visits to Ecomare enrich the curriculum, while the leerlingenraad (student council) fosters pupil involvement. Parents can engage via the Kwieb app and ouderwerkgroep (parent working group).
